This is a very powerful video with all the abuse Hillary has taken
throughout this campaign with her speaking in the background about
human rights.
Sweden is sending the Eurovision '99 winner, Charlotte Perrelli, to Belgrade this year. She won with ABBA clone "Take me to your heaven". Yes - you're humming it right now, aren't you?
Anyway, this year's entry isn't as sing-a-long as last time, but I think it might do quiet well.
Word on the Eurovision fan (i.e. fanatic) grapevine is that Charlotte's song is popular all over Europe. Could it be Sweden's time to shine again?
She's an accomplished performer, but aside from her insanely long legs, doesn't have a gimmick that will stand out in the public's memory when they come to vote. Might she rely on her performance and the song itself to win votes? The very thought!!
The Gadget Lab Blog over at Wired is discussing rumours of an Apple Tablet coming our way in the coming months:
Intel Germany 'Confirms' Apple Tablet
If we take a statement from Intel Germany's CEO, mix in a little internet rumor and season with a salty sprinkling of speculation, we come up with an Apple Internet Tablet. Here's the first ingredient, machine translated from ZDNET, Germany:
Germany-World's managing director Hannes Schwaderer today confirms what has long been a rumor on the Internet [...]: namely, that there is an iPhone with Intel's new nuclear-chip type. The device is slightly larger than the current version, Schwaderer. This is not the Intel chip, but to the larger display in the new iPhone is used.
For "Nuclear Chip" read "Atom", Intel's 45nm x86 chip intended for UMPC use. Apparently, this will not be a replacement for the current iPhone, but an addition, like the MacBook Touch we last dreamed about back before MacWorld in January.
ZDNET thinks that the screen will sport a 720 x 480 pixel resolution, which suggests a mini-tablet sized device (the current iPhone's screen measures 320x480 pixels). That puts it close to the Eee PC's 800x400 resolution. A high-res, always connected tablet with movies, music and the Mac OS? Goodbye, Kindle.
I can think of about a gazillion uses I would have for something like this. I just hope it comes to pass.
I'm sad to report that Cricket died yesterday morning. He was a happy little puppy Monday night and by Tuesday morning he was gone. The vet determined that he had a birth defect. I'm so sad....
Grab your helmet, check the air in your tires, and hop on your bike because in many U.S. cities, May 12 - 16 is Bike to Work Week! Six Apart has a lot of biking enthusiasts, so we're very excited to support this event by encouraging all of our employees to bike to work this week. San Francisco's Bike to Work Day is tomorrow, Thursday, May 15th, and New York's is Friday, May 16th.
Six Apart is helping out its employees by providing maps (shaded according to steepness - a must in SF!) to help everyone plan out his/her route, as well as finding first-time riders buddies to commute with. We're also supporting ALL SF riders who pass the front of our office by handing out coffee, juice and snacks from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. tomorrow morning. If you're in our neighborhood, look for the sign that says "Six Apart Supports Bike to Work Day" and stop by to say hi and get energized!
Improve your health, financial status, productivity, and happiness by joining thousands - maybe even millions - of commuters around the country who are hopping on their bikes to get to work. Visit the Bike to Work Week website to find out more about events in your area.
Support the two-wheeled way of life with the "Passing Left" theme found in "Photo-Based" in the Design Area. Planning on cycling to work this week? Let us know in the comments!
Something not quite right about this video message from Celine Dion.... See if you can spot what it is.
What? You didn't know Celine Dion got her big break on the Eurovision Song Contest? Singing for Switzerland? In Dublin? In 1988? Well, here's the proof. Proof also what a good cosmetic surgeon can do... (mee-ow).
Sweet Jeebus.
Here's this year's entry from Hungary - it's Csézy, singing Candlelight. I'll be honest and admit it reminds me of about half a dozen other Eurovision ballads.
But this might play to Hungary's advantage, with that "I feel like I know this song" feeling. This and Romania represent the traditional Euro-ballad this year, I think. Will they stand out against turkeys, pirates and other assorted clowns?
Not a bad song at all, in Eurovision terms - though it wouldn't trouble the Top 20 in any other context. But then, that's the beauty of Eurovision.
Thanks be to Jeebus for YouTube. I missed this edition of 'Have I got news for you', but was able to watch the whole on the net a few days later. And now, I share it with you. I won't bother explaining the object of this game to US readers, as for this episode, the guest host takes the whole thing off on a manic (very loud) tangent.
Brian Blessed. You may remember his from such films as "Flash Gordon"....
Pure genius. He deserves his own chat-show. It'd be cheap too, as there would be no need for any guests - he would do all the talking. Enjoy. But be warned - there are some naughty words...
Here's another musical offering from the Balkans. (Incidentally, am I the only person that pictures a weird alien race from Star Trek every time they hear the word 'Balkans'? As in "The Balkans have launched a quantum torpedo at us - raise sheilds!". No? Just me then.)
So Croatia is most definitely going for the Eastern Bloc vote here. And the grey vote too, judging by the average age of these performers. I think it's nice they allowed their grandfather to take part though, despite the fact he looks as if he's not entirely sure what he should be doing at any point during the performance.
Bless.
Help the aged, indeed.
